Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations. It is a form of meditation that can help reduce stress and improve overall well-being.

Here are some steps to help you get started with mindfulness:

  • Find a quiet place to sit or lie down where you will not be disturbed.
  • Focus your attention on your breath. Pay attention to the sensation of air moving in and out of your body.
  • When your mind starts to wander, gently redirect your focus back to your breath.
  • Don’t judge your thoughts or feelings. Simply acknowledge them and let them pass by.
  • Repeat this process for several minutes, working up to longer periods of time as you become more comfortable with the practice.
  • Practise mindfulness regularly, perhaps once or twice a day.
  • Incorporate mindfulness into your daily activities, such as eating, walking, or doing household chores, by focusing on the sensations and experiences of the moment.

Remember, mindfulness is a skill that takes practice. Be patient with yourself and know that it’s normal for your mind to wander at first. The more you practise, the easier it will become to maintain a state of mindfulness.
